Karina Werner is a designer and illustrator based in northern Denmark. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she now lives in a small town of around 800 people, where she works exploring the relationship between nature and the beauty found in everyday life.

Her illustrations are shaped by the things that surround her: the colours of a garden, a handmade object, and small everyday rituals. Her references wander through the Georgian period, the Arts and Crafts movement, botanical illustration, decorative arts and textiles, and the elegance of the 18th and 19th centuries. She is drawn to the way these traditions celebrated nature and craftsmanship.

She has worked for a home décor factory, developing patterns and products, and for a brand agency, creating visual identities and brand worlds. She taught watercolour to the elderly and illustrated children’s books and magazines.

She has been drawing since she was little, but in 2023 she decided to make illustration her profession. Moving between watercolour and digital illustration, she explores colour, pattern and texture.

After a period immersed in motherhood following the birth of her first daughter, Ori, she is slowly returning to her creative practice and her work as an illustrator.
